Red Deer, AB - Manufacturing Reciprocating Pumps -> Induction Heat Treating
|
Barrel tube heat treating
- SupraHard hardened steel barrels
- High frequency induction heating followed by an immediate cold water quench
- Close tolerance induction coils and integral quench heads ensures a consistent uniform hard case
- Special high carbon grade tubing is used to obtain the highest possible hardness
- Uniform case depth of 0.035” on average
- Uniform 60 HRC to a minimum of a 0.010” depth
- Output is around 1000 ft/day (depending on barrel length)
- Cost of equipment and R&D was $250,000
- Patented internal integral coil and quench head
- Developed over 3 years in 1985 (only one in existence)
- The unit was built by Quinn’s except the induction high frequency generator
Advantages
- Hardened case of 0.010”, which is more than adequate for normal barrel wear of 0.005” – 0.008”
- Bulk of wall thickness remains tough and ductile (23 HRC) as per NACE (stress and H2S embrittlement)
- Barrel tube is ready for precision honing and threading
- Cost effective, efficient, and environmentally safe
