Red Deer, AB - Manufacturing Reciprocating Pumps -> Spray Welding

  • Induction fused powder flame spray process
  • Metco 6P-II Thermo spray system
  • Manual spray system for large OD plungers
  • Manufacture Q-Hard plungers, Spray Metal valve rods, pull tubes, polish rods (up to 36’ in length) as well as other products
  • All product is shot blasted prior to spray welding to a clean surface area for bond integrity
  • Nickel based powder containing borides, carbides and silicon
  • Fed via Nitrogen from the hopper into Oxyacetylene fuel gas combustion flames, melted and projected by the gas stream onto the product
  • High frequency coils fuse the powder at 1900°F to 2000°F immediately following spray welding to ensure a crack free surface.
  • Plungers greater than 3.25” are hand sprayed and oxyacetylene flame fused
  • End result is a clean almost fully dense coating (no porosity or inclusions)
  • Typical hardness is greater than 60HRC (Standard Spray) and upgraded  Tungsten hardness of greater than 65HRC

Advantages

  • A virtually fully dense and non-permeable coating microstructure
  • Metallurgical bond
  • Improves corrosion resistance
  • Wear ability
  • Increases bond strength
